Recycled coffee polyester

Premium fabric with a coffee infused twist

This unique technology uses an innovative low-temperature, high-pressure and energy saving process that combines used coffee grounds onto the recycled plastic yarn surface, changing the characteristics of the filament, and offers up to 200% faster drying time compared to cotton.

The micro-pores in the used coffee grounds absorb odours and reflect UV rays all the time providing a +50 UV protection to the wearer.

The coffee ground is collected from Taiwan local coffee shops and the polyester is from local waste PET bottles.

1 Tech Tee  = 3 cups of recycled coffee & 5 PET (0.5L) bottles

We calculate plastic savings based on how many plastic bottles are contained in each square meter of our fabric range, and how much fabric is required to produce each of our products. 1 tech tee uses on average 1 meter of fabric.

Recycled ocean plastic

Innovation, with the ocean in mind

Our recycled ocean plastic polyester is made out of plastic collected from beaches, marine communities, and the ocean.

It has all the same benefits as post consumer recycled polyester but is cleaning up the ocean we love.

Through third-party testing, all our fabrics are certified to the Global Recycling Standard

1 Tech Tee  =  15 plastic (0.5L) bottles

We calculate plastic savings based on how many plastic bottles are contained in each square meter of our fabric range, and how much fabric is required to produce each of our products. 1 tech tee uses on average 1 meter of fabric.

Recycled polyester

Reincarnation is a beautiful thing

Recycled polyester keeps waste out of landfills, incinerators and the environment. It is made up of recycled PET bottles and is basically the same in terms of quality when compared to virgin polyester.

  • Reduces water consumption by 20%
  • Reduces energy consumption by 30-50 %
  • Reduces CO2 emissions by nearly 60 %

Natural fibres
Organic cotton

Think people and planet

Grown without the harmful chemicals used in producing regular cotton which negatively impact the land it is grown on, the people growing it and the people wearing it.

  • It uses far less water and energy than regular cotton.
  • Organic cotton is more durable than regular cotton.
  • We prioritise Global Organic Standard Textile Standard (GOTS) certified products.

'77 million agricultural workers suffer poisoning from pesticides used in non-organic cotton growth each year'

Natural fibres
Hemp

The champion of absorbing and trapping carbon dioxide

Hemp is a fast growing plant. It has a low usage of water compared to cotton and requires no chemical pesticides or fertilisers.

  • It is a zero waste fibre as there is potential use for every part of the hemp plant.
  • Naturally has both antibacterial and anti-fungal properties.
  • Usually blended with cotton therefore we prioritise that it is certified organic.

Natural fibres
Wool

The original eco-friendly fibre

We love this fibre as its 100% natural, its renewable, and biodegradable. Not to mention that it can be washed less due to its natural odour suppression, and requires less water to produce than cotton.

  • To make 100 sweaters, wool uses nearly 70% less water than cotton would to make the same amount (Woolmark).
  • ZQ certified wool is something we especially look out for. This is an ethical wool certification that ensures a better quality of life, for the animals, for our planet, our people, and you.
  • We also prioritise ZQRX regenerative wool, which is a step further than ZQ and challenges growers and brands to go beyond sustainability. For example restoring waterways, protecting native species, offsetting carbon, and enhancing local communities.

100% natural, renewable and biodegradable.

Printing Process

How we approach printing

With all of our printing processes, we weigh up between ensuring the end result will be vibrant and long lasting while also having minimal impact on the planet.

Here are a few printing types we focus on:

  • Sublimation - Hailed as the “greenest” printing process
  • Screen printing (water based inks)
  • Embroidery - using rayon viscose that is made from renewable raw materials
  • Supacolour transfer (water based inks)

Shipping and packaging

This is an area of constant research, measurement, mitigation, offset, and new technology here at LUCKE.

As a general rule, we try to use the lowest impact option and minimise as much packaging as possible.

Solutions we are proud off so far:

  • We use DHL GoGreen shipping to measure and offset our footprint
  • Home compostable courier bags
  • Recycled card courier bags that are recyclable + compostable
  • Courier labels + packing slips made from 60% wheat straw + 40% recycled wood
  • Packing tape, made from 100 recycled FSC - certified paper, fully compostable and printed with renewable soy-based inks

Take back initiative

The LUCKE Take Back Initiative allows customers to bring back any LUCKE apparel at the end of its usable life for free, or other brand clothing for a small fee.

This program is made possible through our partnership with Upparel, a B-Corp certified company and a leader in textile recycling in Australasia.

Items returned which are deemed not fit for wear are broken down into different materials and fabrics. Hardware and non-fabric items are individually recycled, and textiles are turned into a super fine cushion-like fiber or cushioning material. This fiber can then be used to make pillows, insulation, and furniture.

Items that are deemed still fit for wear are donated to charities, social enterprises and non-profit organisations. At the end of their life, these upcycled items can be returned to Upparel and recycled again.

Compared to virgin polyester, recycled reduces CO2 emissions by nearly 60 %

Recycled Coffee Ground

Coffee To Clothing

First developed by a Taiwanese company in 2008, the use of coffee grounds to make clothes has been on the rise ever since. It does not require the high-temperature treatment that other materials require which reduces CO2 emissions leading to a greener planet.

The benefits include:

-Fast-drying
-Sweat-wicking
-Odour control (naturally anti-bacterial)

Hemp

Sustainability benefits

Recycled polyester helps ensure that this waste doesn’t end up in landfills, incinerators or worse, the environment.

Reduces the demand for crude oil extraction and virgin material production.

Compared to virgin polyester, recycled polyester can reduce energy consumption by 30-50 % and CO2 emissions by nearly 60 %, as well as reduce impacts on land, air and water.

OUR QUALITY

Designed to last.

At LUCKE, we’re not big on trends. We want you to wear our pieces for years, even decades, to come.

That’s why when we design a new piece, our designers aim for a time-less approach.

We also look at the print quality for longevity. Our sublimation process is world class, eco-friendly and keeps longer compared to the typical screen printing process.

 The champion of CO2

Hemp is unmatched in its ability to sequester (absorb and trap) carbon dioxide (CO2) from the atmosphere. Industrial hemp has been shown to absorb more CO2 per hectare than any forest or commercial crop.

Benefits include:
-Breathable & insulating
-Highly durable
-Biodegradable
-Soft on the skin
-Naturally moisture-wicking & odour resistant
-Non-synthetic = no microplastics
-Naturally antibacterial & antifungal

END OF LIFE

Circularity in mind

Our products are designed to never end up in the landfill.

Through our zero-waste circular program, customers can return their organic cotton and recycled polyester garments and we will repurpose or turn them back into new fibres.

LUCKE is also proud to be part Usedfully,  enabling us to contribute the transition to a low-carbon future for our industry and Aotearoa.

Certifications you can trust

Almost all of our recycled polyester products are Global Recycled Standard certified.  The Global Recycled Standard verify the recycled input material and track it all the way to the final product.

It also ensures responsible social, environmental practices and chemical use throughout production
